Potpourri, Meanderings, Wistful Imaginings…

The San Fernando Valley

I tried hard to get it together last week. I so wanted to post Part 3 of our Oregon trip; but, well, the photos are on Mr. NinthHouse’s computer and he has about as much free time as I do these days. The coast of Oregon, Part 3 — complete with breathtaking photos, courtesy of Mr. NinthHouse — I will put on hold until we return from L.A.

Yes, at the end of this coming week we are leaving for L.A. to attend my stepdaughter’s wedding and incumbent wedding-related festivities.

As always, I have the need to communicate and stay in touch. My thanks go out to Sunday Stealing for providing the inspiration for this post:

  • A better name for me would be:  Suzy Creamcheese (a highschool nickname, for a time), because it not only encompasses my passion for everything bagels with the “works,” but also my hippie philosophy of years gone by…

*  *  *

  •  I have a hard time understanding:  why it is, lately, I’ve been waking up abruptly every. single. morning. with bureaucratic forms on my mind…aarrgghh…I need a good night’s sleep… please!

Some mornings it feels like a block of concrete is on my head.

  •  If I ever go back to school, I’d:  return to Florence and stretch my art muscles.

This city takes my breath away…

*  *  *

  • You know I like you if:   I bear my soul to you.

I LOVE this song.

  •  If I ever won an award, the first person I’d thank would be:  those special people in my life who have made a point, more than once, to tell me they believe in me and my work. I am so appreciative!

Thanks to you all for saving my life, more than once…

  • If I could bring back a TV show for a reunion it would be:   American Bandstand in Philadelphia.

*  *  *

  •  Take my advice, never:  allow someone talk you into marrying him (0r her).

*  *  *

  •  My ideal breakfast is:  with good friends or family, cafe au lait and asparagus and goat cheese omelette at Le Pain Quotidien.

  •  A song I love, but do not own is:  I own almost every song I love because of iTunes. A song I cannot STOP listening to these days is Don’t Cry For Me Argentina sung by the great Patti Lupone. This performance is exhilarating!

Listening to her sing, how could you not to have tears in your eyes.

*  *  *

  •  If you spend the night at my house:  prepare to lie awake for a good part of the night enduring a cacophony of fire truck sirens, ambulance sirens, cop car sirens, hip hop and salsa from car stereos, bus drivers leaning on their horns at the double-parked cars that refuse to budge, ice cream trucks looping their mind-numbing soundtracks — and, if you visit on a Friday night, add low-flying planes taking off from Laguardia Airport on Saturday, beginning at about 5:45 a.m.

And this is just the firetruck noise…

  •  Why won’t everyone:  stop spitting!!! It’s disgusting.

Imagine the mentality of spitters who also videotape their spitting…

*  *  *

  •  I’d stop everything for:   a road trip — to anywhere!!!

  •  The world could do without:  hedge funds.

  • The last time I got drunk I:  was self-medicating with two dirty martinis that did not agree with me at all to get through a not-at-all-fun Christmas party in Hollywood thrown by the unsociable host/owner of the design studio where Mr. NinthHouse was employed at the time  —  about 8 months before we left L.A. and moved to New York. In the adjoining room of this bar/restaurant hipster spot, Scott Baio was throwing himself a narcissism party consisting of about 50 or so “friends.” Scott Baio. Fonzie’s little brother, I believe? You would not believe the excitement he generated as he passed through the entrance. (Why…?) Anyway, on the drive home I experienced a sudden, violent onslaught of nausea. I opened the passenger door when we stopped at a traffic light and threw up  as discretely as possible onto Wilshire Blvd. (who am I to complain about people spitting on the sidewalk, you’re probably asking yourself…)

  • If I do anything well, it’s:  unknown to the majority of people.

My Artwork

  •  And by the way: Robin Gibbs died today — that makes 3 musicians that have recently died [things come in three’s, don’t they?]: Levon Helm, Donna Summer, and now Robin Gibb. I hope we are done for a while with dead musicians — these three, weren’t they so fantastic.

R.I.P.
